Sambal Ikan Bilis

-------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------\
Ingredient:

300g Cili Giling
150g dried *ikan bilis (*anchovies)
1 brown onion - sliced thinly
1/2 tbsp ginger - chopped finely
1 tbsp belachan paste
1/2 cup of water
1-2 tbsp oil

1/2 tsp salt

Method:

1. Fry ikan bilis in oil till crispy - this will take about 7 minutes on medium high heat). Dish out and leave aside.

2. Fry onion and ginger until fragrant.

3. Add belacan paste. Stir well for another 4 minutes until fragrant.

4. Add cili giling. Fry for 1 minute until fragrant.

5. Add water and let it simmer for 3 minutes. (You may add more if you wish to have more gravy, I like mine dry)

6. Add the ikan bilis that you have fry earlier. Lastly, add salt and sugar to taste. Stir well and serve hot.

**********

This is my first attempt at making sambal ikan bilis and this is just as good as the ones you can find served outside in Malaysia. I bought the cili giling paste from Jaya Jusco for less than Rm3.

It is very easy to make, spicy and addictive. I highly recommend this recipe to all sambal lovers!!

That dish called Sambal looks delicious, I wish tested it soon because I'm a brown onion addict. I hope you can show when I can buy the same dish with the same flavor.
